Description: Residential garden design

Date: July 2013

A Victorian terrace house with a beautifully extended ground floor, required a new garden layout. The garden has been divided into three separate areas to help increase its perceived size.

The terraced dining area leads out from the new conservatory room, bound with a long lavender and box ball planting bed. This terrace steps down to the side into a smaller pocket terrace, with a new seating bench against the house allowing the views of the garden to be enjoyed. Stepping stones then lead down the garden across the newly laid lawn, with new cottage style borders, and a seating arbour and mill stone water feature located to enjoy the most from the evening sun. The existing shed has been disguised from view with a rose covered trellis and a feature multistem Amelanchier lamarckii, while a box hedge is pushed back with large planted urn to create a focal point at the end of the stepping stone path. Recycled paving stones from the old patio have then been used to create a stepping stone path through a new woodland understory area.

The build of the garden has been planned in small stages so that it can be enjoyed as a project to be worked on by the couple over the coming years. I hope to post some photos of the first stages of the work very soon.
