Description: Residential garden design

Date: April 2012

This garden in the Cotswolds had beautiful existing stone walls which retained several terraces, however there was one retaining concrete wall that dominated the view from the house. The owners wanted to disguise the concrete wall in a way that was sympathetic to the Cotswold's style, without making the garden feel smaller. We designed a timber framed building to fit into the space between the existing steps, allowing for some storage and also seating to enjoy the garden during the colder months. Timber cladding was fitted to back of the building to cover the concrete wall and timber shingles were used the roof blend the structure in with the existing stone walls. The resulting folly was beautifully crafted by the owners using local materials.

We also designed some new planting to add interest to the terraces, including a contemporary meadow planting to the top of one retaining wall. Now that the garden is completed the owners have said that they are very pleased with the improved look of their garden.
