Description: Residential garden design
Date: September 2013
Due to an extension to the rear of this family home the garden was split into several areas to help with the level changes and to create a large terrace area as a spill out from the new dining conservatory. To allow for a break in the steps up to the upper lawn area, a lavender lined ‘vista’ pathway has been created. At one end of the pathway a covered seating bench provides views out across the garden to fields beyond the house. At the other end brick steps lead down to a cobbled courtyard area, with a small table and chairs, a water feature and direct access from the lounge of the house. The courtyard is surrounded with low box hedging and backed by a large planting bed and multistem tree as a key focal point from inside the house. Views from the kitchen lead up brick steps to the lawn area, which is set is higher than the rest of the garden with a new apple tree with deck chairs set beneath to enjoy the views out to the countryside beyond the garden and make the most of the sun.
Overall the design provides an efficient use of space, creating features and interest from the levels changes. This garden has been made to be beautiful while allowing for both family use, enough space for entertaining friends and quiet spots for relaxation and enjoyment of the outdoors. Work on the build of the garden is planned for later this year.
