Description: Landscape Architecture

Date: October 2012

This was our entry into an open ideas competition for a new London landscape, organised by the Landscape Institute, the Garden Museum and the Mayor of London. The competition was inspired by the success of the High Line in New York and encouraged entrants to put forward ideas for new green spaces in the city that would have an exciting impact on the way in which we live in the capital.

Our idea was to retrofit a circular park into an existing urban framework, as a device to reconnect parts of the city which have lost their sense of community. By removing or reducing vehicle use, the street space could be utilised by people in the same way they would a park. A green, attractive, relaxing space as a route to shops, the underground, places to eat, creating a destination for people to enjoy the streets of London and celebrate community activities with small pocket parks, allotments, piazza spaces and street markets.

We were proud to be exhibited alongside over 170 entries. The winner designed an underground mushroom farm along hidden ‘mail rail’ tunnels beneath Oxford Street.
