Description: Residential garden design
Date: June 2012
Design development for Matthew Wilson at Clifton Nurseries.
This garden is designed for a family; to be used safely by children and also enjoyed by adults as a relaxing outside space. The garden has been divided into several zones by utilising its existing level changes, resulting in an ornamental terrace, lawn with flowering borders and ‘Jungle’ play zone towards the end of the garden.
The existing terrace area has been modernised by installing a decked seating area and linear timber planting container with an integrated bench. This area now acts as a spill out area for the conservatory from the basement level to the house. The existing curved brick steps were rendered and topped with natural stone and a variety of ornamental perennials and shrubs were planted in the beds to brighten the outlook from the conservatory. A central oval lawn area was created on the upper level of the garden, with flowering shrub borders, stepping stones leading to the play zone at the back of the garden and a seating bench located in the sunniest spot in the garden. The play area has two bespoke play houses which have been integrated into the garden using ‘jungle’ style planting, such as Fatsia japonica and large ferns. The finishing touch is a scented herb walk with stepping stones leading to and from the upper rooms of the house.
This garden has now been built by Clifton Nurseries.
